Caring for people with severe disabilities

About the Home

The British Home is a long established registered charity in Streatham, south London. Our care and services are centred in our imposing purpose built Home that is surrounded by gardens.

Responsibility for the Home rests with the Board, who are trustees of the charity. Our Patron is HRH Princess Alexandra and our Honorary President is Professor, The Lord Ian McColl of Dulwich. The Chief Executive is Miss Fiona Ritchie.

The British Home is designed for severely disabled people and has large airy rooms, wide corridors and spacious communal areas.

Arranged on three floors, each with dining rooms and living areas, nearly all our residents live in single rooms and many have en-suite facilities. A full programme of leisure and social activities is available to all. It even has an art room and art teacher to encourage creativity and self-expression.

There is a concert hall, a large recreation area, computer suite, a beautiful and peaceful chapel and an extensive garden. There is an extensive programme of activities and events in which residents can participate if they choose.

The well-equipped physiotherapy department ensures everyone has the opportunity to keep as mobile as possible.
