Caring for people with severe disabilities

Commissioning Our Services

The British Home specialises in providing nursing care for adults with life limiting conditions. We care for people with a variety of conditions.

Our 110 residents are people who need residential care for a variety of reasons; they may not be able to live in the community because of their health needs, because of their family or social situation or because their care package can no longer meet their needs.

While most people we admit intend to live at The British Home for the rest of their lives, we also care for people on an interim basis while their homes are being adapted. We aim to stabilise a person's condition, improve their general health, improve their mobility and give them contact with the community. We also offer respite care.

Our staff can care for people with very complex health needs. We look after people who require regimes of multiple medications or who have complicated wound problems. We care for people in vegetative states, people who need percutaneous endoscopic gastroscopy (PEG) feeding and people with tracheotomies.

We admit people from the age of 18 and have a wide age range. Most of our residents are in their 40s and 50s.

Looking for a placement?

Please call Sister Chris Morland, our deputy matron and registered manager, for an informal discussion on 020 8670 8261, or email chris.morland@britishhome.org.uk

We will then send or email you an application form which must be completed and returned with all relevant medical and other reports.

Chris will contact you to ensure that funding is in place, and to arrange visits.

It is possible to arrange an admission in less than a week.

Our charges

  • Single room with en suite facilities - £975 a week
  • Single room with wash basin - £905 a week
  • Respite care - £190 per day minimum stay 7 days - £1330 per week

Most of our residents have a proportion of their fees paid for by their local authority or health service. Some are fully funded and some are entirely self-funded.

The British Home is a registered charity and the money we receive from statutory fees does not cover the whole of our costs. We rely on donated and other income to make up the shortfall and have to raise £150 a week per resident to cover our full costs.
